Holiday Club Diaries – Day Two!

The Abs, the Biceps and the Quads returned to the Body Builders Gym for day two of this year’s Holiday Club! After welcoming back the old hats and greeting some new faces, Julia brandished the envelope containing yesterday’s scores.

Tension was in the air, and as a drum-roll rumbled across the gym Julia revealed that the Biceps had taken third place with 217 points, the Abs had come in second with 222 points, and the Quads were in first place with 249 points! There was a huge chorus of cheers and moans, and our young athletes jumped to their feet, the winners ready to secure their hold and the runners-up desperate to win more points for their team!

Emily and Hannah kicked off the day with another body-building work-out, getting our legs moving and hearts pumping with some funky new moves to learn. Warmed-up and ready to go, we sang the Body Builders theme song, confidently striking muscular poses as Sue and Kate led the actions from the front.

It was now time for the Fun Run! Today was a relay test of speed, agility and team-work; our three teams had to line up and pass a series of blocks through their legs, rebuilding a tower at the other end of the line. It was a loud and frenzied race as the competitors shouted instructions, encouraged each other and cheered for their team further down the line.

Next up was our second appointment with Tracey, Brad, Richard and Doris as we watched the Body Builders Gym Soap Opera. Richard’s mysterious friend returned to give some helpful advice to ditsy Tracey, and Brad has gone on a jealous rampage, promising to exact revenge on his fellow workers at the gym! Will Tracey and Richard be together? Will Brad get his own back? Will Doris finally get the gym cleaned up in time for Thursday night? We’ll find out tomorrow!

The gym games were next on the busy gym schedule! Our teams rotated round the sports stations, and as Mary led the relay races and Robin headed up giant card competitions, Wendy played a series of mad games using our huge parachute! Whether they were sucked under by a shark attack or being blindly chased in a game of cat and mouse, our competitors gleefully crawled around the billowing parachute with huge grins on their faces!

It was Julia’s turn to tell a story today, and after playing ‘the odd one out’ we learnt about a man who suffered from a serious disease called leprosy. No one went near this man because his condition was so contagious, but one day the man heard that Jesus was coming to his town. When the man fell on his knees before Jesus he was completely healed, because Jesus was filled with compassion for the man’s suffering. Julia explained that Jesus loves every single one of us, even if we sometimes are the odd one out.

After the story it was back to our groups for some arts and crafts. Each team changed activities, rotating round decorating gingerbread men, painting t-shirts and making Fimo models. There was an incredible amount of Fimo creations produced, from snakes to flowers to sea horses and everything in between! While these were taken away to be baked in the oven, our young athletes returned to the front for some final songs, singing their hearts out and performing some impressive actions as parents gathered round to watch. We eventually had to say our goodbyes, excited about returning to the Body Builders Gym tomorrow for another morning of fun!
