Holiday Club Diaries – Day Three!

Day three of the Body Builders Holiday Club had arrived! Our athletes flocked into the Gym, eager to represent their teams and win some points. It was time for Julia’s pep talk, and more importantly, yesterday’s final scores!

Wendy brought forward the sealed envelope amidst cheering and chanting, opening it to find that there had been quite a reversal of fortunes. Monday’s winners, the Quads, came in third place with 217 points. The Abs took second place with 241 points, but taking first place with a whopping 301 points was the Biceps! Realising that this could be anyone’s game, the three teams were ready to face the morning’s challenges and work as hard as they possibly could!

This was definitely the attitude we needed when Emily and Hannah took to the stage, as we discovered that we would be learning a dance routine for today’s work-out! After teaching us a series of five moves, including spinning, toe-tapping and snatchin’ back with attitude, Hannah and Emily switched on a song and put our moves to the test, getting our muscles working as we pumped our bodies to the music!

Next, we showed off our exercising actions to the Body Builders theme song, and shouted “Whoop Whoop!” as we praised the Lord to ‘I reach up High.’

The time had finally come for the daily Fun Run! Today was a Mummy challenge. Each team had four toilet rolls, and after nominating a team leader they had to wrap him/her up like an Egyptian mummy, working together quickly and as a team. Points were given to the fastest teams and the best mummies…well, there were certainly some funny ones anyway!

After the Fun Run we all sat down excitedly for the next episode of the Body Builders Gym Soap Opera! Brad played a horrible slick Dick Quick trick on Richard, but now Tracey and Doris don’t want anything to do with him. The mysterious stranger returned and advised Brad to say sorry for the things he had done, as well as helping him fight off the wayward weightlifting women!

It was back to the gym for some games after the Soap Opera, and our three teams rotated again around the sports stations. Mary was instructing our young relay racers, Wendy was stretching out the parachute and Robin was playing a game of pairs with a giant set of cards. This required our teams to use their memories, working together and carefully overturning cards to make pairs, triplets or even a run!

However, even the best athletes need a little break, so after some refreshments it was time to sit down and listen to a story. Today, Chris told us about a sinful woman who met Jesus while he was eating at a Pharisee’s house. Chris explained that sin means doing something wrong or bad, but even though this woman had done a lot of bad things in her life, she knew that Jesus was special and could make it right. She wiped Jesus’ weary feet with her hair and bathed them in really expensive perfume, humbly showing how wonderful she thought Jesus was. Chris told us that if we love Jesus and tell him that we’re sorry, he can also put right the bad things we’ve done by forgiving us.

Our final activity was arts and crafts, so it was back to our teams to ice gingerbread men, model Fimo clay and paint t-shirts! Creativity was flowing, and the t-shirts in particular were looking beautiful as flowers, cars, team names, and of course, muscles were painted on in bold colours. As these were drying, our energetic competitors sang one final song for the parents coming in through the front door, turning around to face them so they could see all the actions we’ve learnt in the last three days. With backs turned to the song words on the screen, this was an amazing testament to the hard work and incredible enjoyment of our athletes, who remembered all the words and actions without any help! Roll on tomorrow for our last morning at the Body Builders Gym!
