Ahoy there! Today we packed our bags and set sail on the first day of an Adventure Cruise, for Holiday Club 2014! All the preparations were in place and it wasn’t long before our ship was filled with lots of excited children raring to go on a magnificent adventure cruise! This year, to keep with the theme, we are going to be sailing, not the high seas, but in fact the 4 C’s. Today’s C was the sea of choice.

The children were split into three teams, Pirate’s Pals, Captain’s Crew and the Grandma’s Gang. After a short time spent with their new teams, the children all gathered together for an introduction from the brilliant John Hardwick where they got their first taste of the energetic Adventure Cruise theme song, which will be a regular feature in this weeks programme. This was followed by entertainment from John, teaching the children funny waves, showing some impressive juggling skills and an appearance from John’s cheeky primate friend, Charlie.hc3

Next, we learnt the first of four memory verses for the week in the form of song, of course accompanied with some lively actions but before long there was some special visitors to the holiday club, yes the wacky, wild Watt family! In this installment, we meet Grandma, Rick and Wendy Watt in the middle of their holidays! But something was afoot, there was a pirate trying to steal a captains briefcase who was asleep! Naturally, the Watt’s forged a plan and managed to catch

Captain sleepingthe mischievous pirate before he could get away. To return the favour,  the captain offered them 3 tickets to go on his luxury cruise liner, free of charge! I wonder what adventures will be in store for the family over the next few days?

Well, with a few of our sailors needing a pit stop, it was time to split into three groups for games, craft and group time. Today, the children had fun playing a pictionary style game involving one child from each team having to draw a sea-related object and their team mates guessing what they are drawing! Here the teams really started to rack up points towards their totals! In the craft, the children got to decorate their very own treasure chest, to stash away all the loot they will surely gain from this weeks fun-filled cruise. The group time involved a well earned rest, drink and biscuit to get them back on their feet, ready to complete their first day at sea with HMS Whitton!

Just before we began to come into port on the first day, John told the bible story, which was the story of Jesus and the Leper (Matthew chapter 8) and to make sure everyone was on their toes and paying attention there was a quiz to test the children’s memory of the story and other parts of the day! After one quick song from the music team, it was almost time to wrap up our first adventure, but not before singing the memory verse and the theme song for one last time today!

Well, what a first day of the magnificent Adventure Cruise Holiday Club, with lots of singing, dancing, action-making, games playing, and overall fun we lower our anchor for the night and look forward to another great day tomorrow at Whitton Baptist Church!
